Through his eponymous brand, Rhion Romany, he has released chic resort wear collections, bespoke bridal gowns and trendsetting Monday wear. He has also outsourced his talent to leading local, regional and international carnival bands to produce some of the most coveted costumes on the road.
Inspired by the contemporary Caribbean lifestyle, Rhion’s creations are an effortless blend of island vibes and metropolitan flair. His looks have been donned by celebrities and masqueraders alike, gracing red carpets, stages and parade routes worldwide. In fact, it’s safe to say his famous ЯR signature has developed a cult-like following with brand evangelists known as ЯRoyals anxiously awaiting the release of his latest line to add to their collection.
Rhion is intent on fulfilling his mission to deliver chic refinement in every area of design he touches. In his first year as a SPIRIT designer he delivered two show-stopping pieces with Sylph and Akasha. This year, he’s ready to do it all over again with Argyle and Fortress.
Her storied career as a costume designer spans two decades, during which time she has worked with some of the top carnival bands in the world. From consultancy and creative direction, to costume design and production, she has been involved in almost every aspect of mas making.
Creating pieces that perfectly capture feminine strength and sensuality is her calling card and it is reflected not only in her costumes, but also her festival wear line, “SandisAngels”. Always one to push the envelope and test boundaries, her maverick approach to costuming has earned her the respect of her peers and the admiration of masqueraders worldwide.
Last year she injected that dynamism and versatility into the SPIRIT Mas design team with La Luz. This year she plans to continue her industry-shaping legacy with Botanica, a kaleidoscopic depiction of the Botanical Gardens; as well as Treya, a collaboration with Nakita Hyatali inspired by the culture and colours of our forefathers.
Mentored by his mas-making parents and apprentice to industry icons such as Roland St. George, Brian McFarlane, and Peter Minshall, he made his costuming debut at 16-years-old. At 19 he started learning the art of wire bending from the masters, and over time developed his skills in 3D foam aesthetics and sculpting. Now, 26 years later he’s the quintessential “mas man” known for producing his own costumes and influencing trends to shape the industry into what it is today. To date, his extensive portfolio features designs for ground breaking local and international Carnival bands.
Among the high profile personalities to have donned his costumes are Nicki Minaj, Amber Rose, and several Miss Universe contestants, including Miss Universe Trinidad & Tobago 2023, Faith Gillezeau. However, his body of work extends beyond carnival to include projects with global brands such as Macy’s and Disney.
Currently, Douglas serves as a creative director, co-shareholder, and designer for several international bands. Last year he added SPIRIT Mas to that list with his sections Naiad and Nova. This year he plans to continue his quest to leave an indelible mark on the carnival industry with Dimanche, his representation of the festival’s main stage, the Queens Park Savannah.
Canadian-trained in fashion arts and further skilled in design and pattern making in Trinidad, her career began with her first carnival design in 2015. She has since created stunning costumes and directed productions across Jamaica, Barbados, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and London.
Nakita excels in photoshoot and video styling, creative direction, and managing franchise storefronts. Her work includes collaborations with renowned names like Meiling, Anya Ayoung Chee, as well as globally recognised carnival bands.
As the founder of Kitanilly Designs, Nakita’s clothing brand is celebrated for its luxurious, ready-to-wear resort wear. Her career reflects her entrepreneurship, adaptability and creativity, making her a leading figure in both the fashion and carnival industries.
Now she’s bringing her talent, passion and expertise to SPIRIT Mas. Her costume, Bréa, perfectly embodies the iconic Pitch Lake; while Treya, a collaboration with Sandra Hordatt, is inspired by the culture and colours of our forefathers.
An alum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, he has successfully leveraged his bachelor’s degree in Fashion Business Management, as well as his training from the esteemed Professor Andrew Ramroop, to create his eponymous clothing line, Levi Marcus. Now, he’s making his mark as a carnival costume designer.
Recognised as much for his business acumen as his ability to create aspirational, fashion-forward products, Levi has forged his own path. To date, he has secured partnerships with major players such as Machel Mantano and Ten to One Rum. While his designs have been worn by a slew of local, regional, and international celebrities, including Ciara, Rebel Sixx, and Kes.
Beyond the world of fashion, Levi is a self-proclaimed carnival junkie and a passionate advocate for the masquerader experience. As a member of the SPIRIT design team, he specializes in sustainable costumes for men.
He made his debut with the iconic all-male section, Balos, in 2024 and he plans to raise the bar with with Battalion in 2025.
An apprentice of legendary mas-maker, Roland St. George, Kriston masterfully blends unconventional materials and bold, imaginative designs to bring costumes to life. He consistently pushes the boundaries of what's possible and this innovative approach has earned him a reputation as a trailblazer in the industry.
Thus far, his creations have been showcased in several Caribbean carnivals, including Trinidad, Grenada, St. Lucia, Miami and Toronto’s Caribana. Now’s he’s bringing his boundless passion and talent to SPIRIT Mas with his depiction of Gasparee Caves.
The creative mind behind the resort wear line Kaiso Swim, Trishelle’s foray into the carnival space began in 2022 with the introduction of her Monday Wear line, Kaiso Karni.
In less than 3 years the brand has become a fixture in several parades across the Caribbean, including Trinidad, St. Kitt’s, Grenada, and Bermuda. Kaiso pieces have been featured in international publications, such as Essence, Marie Claire, and Vogue; and they’ve been worn by several international celebrities, such as Tinashe, Janelle Monae and Kes.
Trishelle first partnered with SPIRIT as an exclusive Monday Wear designer in the band’s inaugural year. Now, in year two, she is excited to bring to her expertise in crafting extradordinary body wear designs for all body types to the SPIRIT Island collection with Ibis.
